| Sable Mountain Outfitters of Northwest Colorado is owned and operated by Gene and Ann Marie Scritchfield, both are lifelong residents of Meeker. Together with their children, Mason and Eva, they not only run Sable Mountain Outfitters but raise cattle and sheep as well. They enjoy a life that involves animals and the outdoors and best of all, they do it all together as a family. |

Gene grew up horseback on these mountain trails helping his family. Not many know this part of the White River National Forest and Flat Tops Wilderness as well as Gene does. Being around outfitting most of his life taught him much about the business and owning Sable Mountain Outfitters is a dream come true for him. |
| Ann Marie was also raised horseback working cattle and sheep on her family's ranch. Ann Marie has been riding horses ever since she can remember and is always seeking to learn something new about her equine friends. Although she does do the office part of the job, she is much happier outside with the livestock. | ![]() |

Mason, who is now eleven, has been riding these mountain trails since he was three years old and loves to ride and stay at camp. He is an excellent camp-hand. He raises 4-H market lambs and swine, has competed in Little Britches Rodeo and was the top elk bugler in his class for two years in the annual grade school elk bugling contest. Mason loves to fish and will soon be our best fishing guide. Marvine Lake and Marvine creek are his favorite places to fish. |
| Eva is just one year old and already has been on the 8-mile horseback ride to Marvine Lake. Like the rest of her family, she loves animals. She squeals with excitement when she sees the sheep and dogs and loves to pet the horses' noses. | ![]() |

We run about ninety head of horses and love each and every one of them and can tell you the name and personality traits of each horse. We own mostly American Quarter Horses, however, we also have several Paints, some mules, a few Appaloosas, one Pinto mare, some very fine mustangs and mustang cross, and a couple of Arabian crosses and, of course, our ever popular Belgians. |
| We raise a few foals every year, imprint them at birth and train them ourselves and have great success with those horses. We are always looking for top quality, gentle, trustworthy horses and when we find them, they make a nice addition to our herd. | ![]() |
